Blame the voters (if you want to lose)

American political comedian Bill Maher said on his show last week that anyone who supports Donald Trump is deplorable. Guest Andrew Sullivan, a conservative political commentator, called Trump a "monster" but argued that comments like Maher's make people thinking of voting for Trump feel mocked, condescended to and ridiculed and merely increase his election potential. How do Czech voters feel when Tomáš Halík says that he can't get elected president because there aren't enough reasonable voters? Or when Václav Bělohradský says that ČSSD must abandon its traditional voters, because they are old, dissatisfied and unsuccessful. What all of these people (other than Sullivan) fail to understand is that the voters are the product of the environment created over many years by politicians, the schools they control and the partisan media. The voters won't change unless the system changes. Blame the voters, and they will blame you.
