War president
Viewers of Czech TV could easily have gained the impression on Sun. and Mon. evenings that Chinese assassins killed Senate Pres. Jaroslav Kubera to prevent him from visiting Taiwan and that Russian assassins were planning to do the same to Prague 6 Mayor Ondřej Kolář because he removed the statue of Marshal Ivan Konev. These are serious matters, and an editorial decision had to be made at the public station about whether to play with fire by sending such signals. One possible analysis of such a decision is that both the health and position of Pres. Miloš Zeman is deteriorating and that the best candidate to succeed him, as those calling the shots at Czech TV see it, is Gen. Petr Pavel. He is already being promoted by ČT in much the way that Jiří Drahoš was in 2017-2018. Pavel's chances would increase dramatically if the CR were at war with China and Russia. If not literally, then at least through the parochial lens of Czech TV and its affiliated media.
