Hero of national economic destruction

12.10.2020 - EB

PM Andrej Babiš and Health Min. Roman Prymula were superspreaders in Czech of the English word "lockdown," but now Babiš wants people to stop using it, because it means something different to each person. The media aren't heeding his request. Václav Moravec of Czech TV wondered yesterday why the lockdown didn't come sooner. It now seems that no matter what form the new restrictions take on Wed., the media will consider them a lockdown. Babiš and Prymula got themselves into this pickle by using the word repeatedly on Fri. and Sat., and Pres. Miloš Zeman complicated their situation by telling MFD in an interview that appeared on Sat. that the CR could not survive another lockdown; it would destroy the economy. Czechs will now watch Zeman give the highest Czech medal of honor on Oct. 28 - if Prymula allows the ceremony to go forward - to a health minister who is planning a lockdown that, according to the president himself, will destroy the economy.
