Will the CR take Brexit seriously?
In a brief note on the cabinet's website, Bohuslav Sobotka congratulated Theresa May as the UK's new PM, saying that he firmly trusts that she will lead her country responsibly through this difficult period. No fault can be found with what Sobotka wrote, but the same can't be said of the performance on ČT last night of Sobotka's state secretary for EU affairs, Tomáš Prouza. He's heading a working group that is to submit a Brexit proposal by the end of Sept., but he jumped the gun by stating last night that many banks operating in the UK will lose their "passporting" access to the EU market and will have to move to the Continent. This is one of the most sensitive issues with regard to Brexit and will be the subject of legal analysis and negotiations, but Prouza has already stated a position, without any cabinet vote on the matter. Sobotka should demand the same responsible Brexit behavior from his civil servants that he expects from Theresa May.
