Talking presidential nonsense

27.12.2016 - EB

Think what you might about Miloš Zeman's address yesterday, but it certainly wasn't hard to decipher. Compare any of his lines about the economy, censorship or Donald Trump to this pre-Christmas doozy from Andrej Babiš: "Our movement (ANO) will hold primaries, and members will choose whether to run a candidate (for president)." What? You mean you'll hold primaries but then might not field your own candidate? How would that make the winner feel? Bohuslav Sobotka is no more lucid about this than Babiš. Sobotka said a month ago that ČSSD will hold an internal party referendum to choose a candidate and then might support Miloš Zeman in the second round if the other candidate is Michal Horáček. He ignored the likelihood that Zeman would win the referendum, unless he were specifically excluded. Rather than spout such nonsense, Babiš and Sobotka should follow Zeman's example and refuse to comment on the presidential race.
