Nuclear powerhouse
PM Petr Fiala devoted 119 words in MFD yesterday to the "many years of delay in the development of the Czech energy sector, which we all feel so acutely today." He blamed it on the bad decisions of the two ANO governments with regard to nuclear power. Just a few hours after the article appeared, Fiala told delegates to the COP29 climate conference in Baku that the CR has 50 years of experience with nuclear power and is ready to assist any country that wants to use it in the future. What exactly was he offering? The technology the CR plans to implement at Dukovany belongs to KHNP or Westinghouse. The CR reportedly agreed with the EU Commission that nuclear power won't displace renewable energy from Germany. Energy prices and climate rules are destroying the Czech steel industry. And Czech children would rather work for NGOs than NPPs. Perhaps Fiala will resolve these issues before he leaves office, but it's somewhat premature to present the country as a nuclear powerhouse.
