Only company EVs as of 2030

21.07.2025 - EB

Bild of Germany reported yesterday that the EU Commission will submit a plan later this summer for requiring car-rental agencies and large companies to buy only electric vehicles as of 2030. This would affect 60% of the market for new cars, Bild said, but without making it clear what a large company is. ARD reported last night that it would apply to all company fleets but that the German government opposes the plan. Even if the proposal doesn't pass, it tells us a lot about the thinking of the Commission. The report comes as Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Czech PM Petr Fiala, Czech Defense Min. Jana Černochová and others are expecting Russia to attack a European country around 2030. China and the U.S. are also in the process of dividing up the world's resource, as Focus magazine of Germany wrote on Fri., meaning the key elements needed for the industries of tomorrow. Added to this is the greater risk of power outages or blackouts, which requiring companies to buy EVs would only exacerbate. In this light, the Commission's proposal almost looks like part of that expected Russian attack on Europe around 2030.
