Bondi and Decroix

24.07.2025 - EB

Unless some unexpected names show up, the closest the Czech Republic has to the Jeffrey Epstein client list that's shaking U.S. politics is that the father of Epstein's imprisoned accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, was born in Czechoslovakia. Robert Maxwell is from what is now Solotvyno, Ukraine. That's not much, but there are indeed some similarities between the way the Trump administration is handling the Epstein matter and the Fiala government is dealing with its bitcoin scandal. When Attorney General Pam Bondi announces that, "Nothing in the files warranted further investigation or prosecution," it's reminiscent of Justice Min. Eva Decroix's early assessment that her predecessor, Pavel Blažek, didn't consult with anyone in the cabinet or ODS. The biggest suspicion in both scandals is that some very powerful people are being protected. A big difference is that whereas Bondi has the authority to quash the investigation, Decroix is forced to wait to see what her "underlings" in the state prosecution do.
