Babiš and the Russian threat
One of the biggest criticisms of the new government's draft policy statement was the absence of any mention of the security threat posed by Russia. Strangely, Petr Fiala's state-of-the-nation report doesn't mention it either. There's no mention of Russian tanks appearing in Czech cities again or of the possibility of further Russian aggression in 4-6 years. However, Blaise Metreweli, head of MI6, said yesterday that, "Russia is testing us in the grey zone with tactics that are just below the threshold of war." And Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte said last week that Russia could attack a Nato country within the next five years. MP Pavel Růžička of ANO told CNN Prima News that he's on the BIS and Military Intelligence oversight commissions and has never heard such a radical statement there. As PM last time, Andrej Babiš played a role in the build-up to war in Ukraine. He'll now be under tremendous pressure to jump back into a media hype that even Fiala decided at the last minute to step away from.
