ČSSD on Klaus's side

A prominent ČSSD official wrote us that Václav Klaus was acting in the interest of the people by vetoing the pension laws. Jiří Pehe, a pro-ČSSD analyst, wrote in Právo today that if Klaus is trying to bring down the government, he should do it openly, because fresh elections are the only thing that can keep the country from smothering. ČSSD's enthusiasm for Klaus's recent actions is as shortsighted as it is partisan. If Bohuslav Sobotka or Michal Hašek were the PM, ČSSD would be singing a completely different tune. It's another master stroke that Klaus has enlisted his arch ČSSD enemies in his own self-interested game. What will these giddy opportunists think when Klaus engineers Petr Nečas's downfall, installs Martin Kuba as PM, and then allows Kuba to remain indefinitely in the post, even if the new government doesn't win confirmation from Parliament? So much for ČSSD's early elections.
