What the Communists want
MP Petr Tluchoř and his 5-6 comrades-in-arms from ODS are pushing the Nečas cabinet toward the abyss because they think that ODS has veered too far from its platform by agreeing to raise taxes. What if Bohuslav Sobotka of ČSSD were the prime minister of a future coalition government and rebels from the junior coalition partner, the Communist Party, decided to use a similar tactic against their PM? KSČM's published program calls for preventing the excessive dependence of the Czech economy on foreign capital; buying up shares in companies in the strategic areas of energy, communications, public transport, water, sewer and mining; regulating the prices of natural gas, water, heat, fuels and rent; and founding a state-controlled bank to provide guaranteed loans to citizens and credit to businesses. Would Sobotka let his government fall, or would he give in to the coalition hardliners?
