It takes two ... to run for president

Some Republican commentators are already complaining that their party lost yesterday because Mitt Romney wasn't a worthy candidate. Given the size of the deficits and national debt under Obama, it should have been a shoo-in for the Republicans. It's almost as if they decided they didn't want to win this time. In the Czech presidential race, the shoo-in candidate increasingly appears to be Miloš Zeman. But it takes two to run for president, and just as Mitt Romney was a safe candidate to put up against the Chosen One, the Czech criminal elite will need a safe candidate to pit against Zeman (in case things don't work out with him). Jan Fischer is the obvious safe candidate in this respect, but he's making one mistake after another. Who else is there? Karel Schwarzenberg and Jiří Dienstbier, of course, but they're both too risky. Although it may seem unlikely at this point, that leaves only Vladimír Dlouhý.
