How PPF formulates China policy

12.05.2014 - EB

PPF has never been particularly coy about its desire to change the Czech government's approach to China. It invited a group of journalists to the country in Oct. 2011, after which one of them, Jaroslav Plesl, wrote in HN that Petr Kellner of PPF is helping to formulate a reasonable China policy. A few months later, in March 2012, PPF aided with a ČSSD delegation to Beijing and Shanghai that included two of the future ministers who voted recently to enact the change, Jan Mládek and Lubomír Zaorálek. Almost anyone with an interest in Czech foreign policy can see the causal link, so why does Czech TV refuse to ask Zaorálek the obvious questions on shows such as Hyde Park and OVM? Ex-Minister Karel Dyba said at a recent Czech Top 100 event that the idea of five or six "families" who control the CR is absolutely outside the bounds of reality. In terms of the new China policy, it's ČT that is ignoring the reality.
