The non-interventionist U.S. ambassador
The term "deep state" is used by supporters of Donald Trump to describe forces within the U.S. government bureaucracy that they think are actively working to bring down the president of the United States. This isn't treason in the eyes of those engaged in this sort of activity, because they're serving a good cause - protecting liberal democracy. Keep this in mind as a new U.S. ambassador, Steve King, starts the process of taking up office in Prague. Trump stated in his inaugural address that, "We do not seek to impose our way of life on others." This certainly doesn't describe the ambassadorial work of King's two Democratic predecessors, Norman Eisen and Andrew Schapiro. The biggest unknown as King prepares to take over in Prague is whether the "deep embassy" left behind by Barack Obama, and the Czech NGOs it supports, will allow King to carry out Trump's non-interventionist wishes. Assuming Trump was serious about them in the first place.
