President of the Resistance

31.01.2018 - EB

Jiří Drahoš made the mistake of thinking that opposition to Miloš Zeman and Andrej Babiš was strong enough to countermand the results of the parliamentary elections, in which the Zeman/Babiš parties or factions won a majority. This doesn't mean there isn't still room for the Drahoš message. Drahoš performed better last weekend than the anti-Zeman/Babiš parties did in the Oct. elections. ODS, the Pirates, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09, STAN and the Greens won just under 40%. Throw in a few percentage points for the Sobotka-Pokorný faction of ČSSD, and you're at 43%. Drahoš won nearly 49% in his race. However, he's quickly losing the momentum and will fade back into obscurity unless he finds new meaning in politics. Instead of groping around for a Senate nomination, he could slide right into the presidency of the Resistance (modeled on the anti-Trump movement). Drahoš could make a better anti-Zeman/Babiš spokesman than Miroslav Kalousek is.

Glossary of difficult words
