Supporting terrorism
The more Czech government officials and lawmakers such as Interior Min. Jan Hamáček of ČSSD and House Speaker Radek Vondráček of ANO speak about throwing the book at people on the internet who show sympathy for the terrorist who killed 50 people in New Zealand, the more they dig themselves into a hole. It's illegal under Czech law to publicly condone a criminal act, as it is to support or promote terrorism, and a broad interpretation of the criminal code could indeed justify filing charges against people who make supportive statements on Facebook. But what happens when the Czech government then decides to follow the Americans and to pull its troops out of Afghanistan? The Taliban took responsibility last Aug. for killing three Czech soldiers. Any action by the Czech government that endorsed the sharing of power in Afghanistan by the Taliban could, under a broad interpretation of the law, amount to the criminal act of supporting terrorism.
