Pavel Zeman bends with the wind

When Supreme State Prosecutor Pavel Zeman appeared on Czech TV's OVM debate show on June 2, he said that a quick skim of the leaked draft EU audit into Andrej Babiš's potential conflict of interest was enough for him to see that there could be reason to suspect criminal behavior. This highly political statement came at a time of considerable weakness for Babiš. Hospodářské noviny wrote that week that political pressure on Babiš was mounting, and Million Moments for Democracy was able to attract more than 100,000 people to a street protest. Six months later, Babiš is still in power, and there are no signs that he is going anywhere, despite the ongoing protests. The same top prosecutor who was able to smell a crime after merely taking a whiff of a leaked audit in June was unable to make legal sense of the Stork's Nest case after studying it for three months. The wind of change has blown through Czech politics, and Pavel Zeman is bending with it.
