Covid nonbelievers rebel
If the Czech government doesn't bring some reason and order to its covid-19 policies, yesterday's protest in Ostrava could come to be seen as the 2020 equivalent of the Palacha Week of Jan. 1989 that signaled the end of the Communist regime. For the first time yesterday, regular citizens with fundamental disagreements with the government's pandemic policies were given a platform. Právo printed a picture of two men carrying a "Stop corona terror" sign. MFD quoted a protester on its front page as saying that the entire Moravian-Silesian region was put to sleep, although there had hardly been a single new case of the disease in the Bruntál or Opava areas. No one knew in Jan. 1989 what was to follow, and it's the same today. The Corona Party of Czechia (KSČ) might survive in one form or another for years to come, or it might hasten its own demise, as the Communist regime did in 1989, by resorting to force to bring into line the increasing number of nonbelievers.
