Nuclear Germany
Bavarian PM Markus Söder visited Prague on Thur. to sign a memorandum with PM Petr Fiala on increasing cooperation in the field of energy, including nuclear power. Two days later Söder told his CSU party colleagues that exiting from nuclear power was a fundamental mistake. According to the New Energy Agenda of CDU/CSU from Nov. 5, the two parties are assessing whether it would be financially and technically feasible to reopen the last German nuclear plants that were closed. How they proceed will depend in part on the outcome of the elections and on who their coalition partner is, but they're already signaling a fundamental redirection of Germany's nuclear policy. Yet Germany's ambassador to Prague, Andreas Künne, strongly supported the policy of exiting from nuclear power and even suggested that the CR's nuclear plants represent an existential threat to his country. A change in Germany's nuclear policy would be a good time to change the German ambassador too.
